That's a Wrap on 2024, written for The Walleye

With the coming of the end of 2024 and welcoming in 2025, EcoSuperior is taking time to share 3 new R's; reflect, recognize, and relax!
When we look back and reflect on the past year's successes and celebrations, we can't help but be grateful for the work we do in Thunder Bay and throughout the Lake Superior Watershed. This past year we oversaw the installation of 14 new rain gardens, we reached 273 youth with our new Sustainable Modes of Transportation program, and over 10,000 volunteers participated in our annual Spring Up to Clean Up campaign. We collected thousands of pounds of textiles, batteries, and water filters so they don't end up in the landfill. With the support of the Federal and Provincial governments, we installed LittaTraps in storm drains throughout the City to collect and analyse the ground litter that flows during heavy rains and spring run-off. Cigarette butts are the most common piece of litter. Stop by EcoSuperior for a pocket ashtray or collect your butts and bring them to EcoSuperior for recycling. We also became a certified living wage employer.
While we reflect on 2024 it is also important to recognize some of the amazing people and organizations with which we collaborate. Nishnawbe Aski Nation provided us with the opportunity to share our water science knowledge with students throughout NAN communities. The City of Thunder Bay supported the LittaTrap project and installed all 16 traps. Hydro One is helping us create a space for children and new riders to build independent walking and biking skills so stay tuned for exciting new programming in 2025!
